The U.S. Embassy in Prague has welcomed David Wisner as its interim head, serving as chargé d’affaires until the new ambassador arrives. Wisner introduced himself to the Czech public in a video, revealing his previous visit to Prague over two decades ago as a student. He expressed his excitement about exploring the city with his family and, as an avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, looks forward to discovering the Czech countryside. Acknowledging his pre-arrival reading of works by Franz Kafka, Václav Havel, and Jan Neruda, he also sought further recommendations for Czech authors.
Wisner, a career diplomat with previous postings in Sudan, Albania, and the Central African Republic, stated in English that the embassy team plans to collaborate with the Czech Republic to advance President Trump’s and the American people’s priorities, including strengthening trade, investment, and NATO. Nicholas Merrick, President Trump’s nominee for Ambassador to the Czech Republic, is currently awaiting confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Merrick, a businessman and investor, recently stated in a Senate committee hearing that he would push for increased Czech contributions to NATO’s defense capabilities and advocate for a balanced trade policy to address the existing trade deficit.
