The Embassy of Finland in Prague marked Finland’s Independence Day by sharing a special message from President Alexander Stubb addressed to Finns living around the world — including the vibrant Finnish communities in Czechia and Slovakia.
Finland celebrates its independence each year on 6 December, commemorating the nation’s declaration of sovereignty in 1917, when Finland emerged as a free and democratic state after centuries under Swedish and later Russian rule. The day holds deep significance for Finns, symbolizing resilience, national unity, and the country’s long-standing commitment to democratic values.
President Stubb’s greeting highlighted these themes, extending warm wishes to Finns abroad and emphasizing the importance of maintaining cultural ties and a shared sense of belonging, no matter the distance. The Embassy echoed this sentiment, joining Finns worldwide in honoring the nation’s history and identity.
