The Sinti are one of the oldest and largest Roma communities in Europe, with a centuries-long presence in German-speaking and Western European countries. During the Nazi era, they were persecuted alongside other Roma groups as part of a racially motivated campaign that led to the murder of hundreds of thousands of Roma and Sinti across Europe. The ceremony honored the memory of those who perished in the camp at Lety and those who were deported from there to Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1943.
